Was there an NT service pack update that fixed this?

I had a problem at work where I couldn't "cd" to a specific directory longer
than
8 characters.  It turned out I had started the old command.com which didn't
recognise long file names.  When I went to the cmd32.exe console it did
recognise the long file names.
