John, any unit that will talk to a "standard" COM port should work - when 
you plug in the cable, it should enumerate as a COM port - I do this with 
an FTDI adapter board that I use with my custom Arduino projects. 
Granted, my stuff is Delphi, but under Win32, there shouldn't be any 
difference in how the ports are accessed from FPC.
