User-friendliness and ease of installation is in the eye of the beholder. This is Debian's version thereof. Every choice has its upsides and downsides.

The reason is that someone has to do the work. The current .deb files are created by the official Debian maintainers of the FPC package. If you or someone wants to create alternate .deb files without any dependencies, we can probably offer space to host them as well.
