I had that in the beginning too, and my usage pattern was the same too.
Don't get me wrong, I still think it is all annoying, but there are
workarounds to make it more bearable.
I work with disappearing menu-bar, and I used windows key to pop it up. In
most cases you can use win-T now, but that is less comfortable when standing
next to a machine with the kbd in your hands.
Most manual navigation in the start menu I did to get to the control panel,
but I now get there via the new key combo win-I [enter]. I miss however
configuring the startmenu to auto-expand network connections and have an
easy kbd way to browse to them.
