Noting that for this test to be valid you obviously have to start from 
e.g.  make clean  and might usefully consider a reboot to make sure that 
all caches are empty.

My point however was that a kernel build parallelises to very good 
effect, even where each processor is "implausibly slow" by today's 
standards.
