What do you suggest as a replacement of Unicode resource strings?
MSEide+MSEgui has the localisation tool MSEi18n which exports the form 
resources and resource strings to a dll/so which can be switched on 
runtime. Although because of FPC bug
http://bugs.freepascal.org/bug_view_advanced_page.php?bug_id=18831
it can be switched only once on Linux...
