Yes. DSP, Crusoe and Itanium do it with execution units. The new wave 
however is to do the same with cores. The idea is that a core can be thread 
either as a stand alone core, or as execution unit, and to be better 
utilized. This way you should in theory (According to Intel) get the best of 
both worlds ;-) . PlayStation as the best of my knowledge also utilizes this 
approach.
