I have talked to the chairman of the foundation.
(I am only the secretary)
We'll do some efforts to improve the website, and before the end of the
year, we'll publish a summary of the funds received and the funds spent
this year, so as to demonstrate that we really want to be open and really
want you to see what the money is being used for.
About crowdfunding:
When you do crowdfunding (or fundraising), you need a legal entity which will
receive the funds to do whatever was promised to do. This can be a person,
or this can be some legal organization. This is what the foundation is for:
a legal entity which can receive funds in a legal way.
This is to avoid that the money is in the hands of a single person:
If this person for instance has a lethal car accident, the donated money is gone.
A legally established foundation does not disappear so easily.
Now, if you feel that it is in the interest of everyone to use some public tool
to advertise a fundraiser ("crowdfunding") then we can look into using that
instead of using only the foundation website.
In the spirit of openness, let me give you an idea of the amount of money we're talking
about:
The implementation of generics is currently estimated to cost between 20.000 and 30.000 EUR.
This estimated sum is not taking into consideration other language features that
will be implemented before generics. (advanced records, attributes, type helpers etc.)
The total amount of donations received so far would cover maybe 15% of this
sum, and they have already been used for the implementation of pas2js as it
exists today. More exact numbers will be on the website soon.
Michael.
