[fpc-pascal] Text IDE, the displayed cursor position

I am a low-level-user, who uses fpc only occasionally for small programs
and only with 10 % of its functionality. For my purposes, the text IDE
seems to be adequate. But I stumble upon a basic functionality: the
displayed cursor-position.
When I start a new program by clicking the button "new", the cursor
stands in the upper left corner, but its position is displayed as
"1:976".
This magic column number may be the difference between 2000 and 1024.
This behavior exists only at the 64-bit versions of fpc.
I found it first in 2010-07-28 with fpc 2.4.0 and wrote a notice with
screenshots at:
Community/ Forum/ Developing for Linux/ The Terminal/
with the headline: "IDE shows strange cursor position".
Until now, there was no comment to this notice. So I don't know, if I
am the only person with this problem, and if the reason is at the user
(bad configuration), at the operating system, at fpc or where else.
Now with fpc 2.6.2 and IDE version 1.0.12 for me the problem still
exists. A screenshot is attached.
My configuration:
processor: AMD Athlon 64 or Intel P 8700
OS: OpenSuse 11.2 to Opensuse 12.2, all for 64 bit
desktop: gnome with the screen-formats: 80 x 24 to 132 x 43
characters, also xterm
My observation:
The indicated cursor coordinates "line" and "column" are not
independent.
When the cursor stays in the first column and only steps down, the
indicated column number is:
"976" in the lines 1 to 9
"808" in line 10
"825" in line 11
"842" in line 12.
I would be happy, if someone could confirm my observations or give me a
hint, what I am doing wrong.
