[fpc-pascal]an issue with lazarus

Hello all, I am having some issues with Lazarus.  I know there is a mailing list for such issues, but I think it may have something to do with FPC itself though.

I've installed fpc 1.0.6 on a fresh system and the lazarus installation from the zip file on their website.  Now whenever I compile even the most simple of a program it gives me the following error:Fatal: Can't find unit CONTROLS

I have added the /usr/local/lib directory to the fpc.cfg file and it still won't see it.  This is very frustrating.  Please help. :-)
