If you are using the Dos version, try the windows version instead, since 
Dos compatibility gets worse with every new version of windows. If you 
are using the windows version, try a snapshot, which is available from 
<http://www.zeus.rug.ac.be/freepascal/develop.html#snapshotsv10>
