Between Delphi7 (1999/2000) and Delphi2005 there was Delphi 8. That was a .Net only Delphi and probably THE most crappy product Borland ever released. The news of a new win32 supporting compiler spurred a new wave of Delphi renewals. Almost everyone was disappointed afterwards until Delphi2007 became a somewhat decent successor again. That is was caused the spike. Most companies I know that have tried 2005 downgraded again to D7 (in fact, not officially through a downgrade program). Actually, some of them are STILL using D7 at this moment. (11 years old)
