A patch to make every early fpc versions work with linux (adding support
of the enter instruction in the kernel) was rejected. With the comment,
"support of the enter instruction is not needed, gcc doesn't generate it
anyways", though enter is supported even by 80286 processors.

So much about the truth of Graeme's statement :)
