Depends what client you use. I use commantline and tortoise. And with 
the latter I frequently close the commit confirm window to fast, and 
then have to manually browse to the "I just pushed a new branch" ...

Well, in the end, that is for all of the core team members to decide.  I 
am an outsider...

I am very happy with git. But I would likely not use MR (or "milestone" 
/ tag) to track what should get merged.

To start with (but that would only matter if I had to do any part of 
that merging), those are avail only via the web interface. I then have 
to go there and either
- collect them, so I can do merging locally
- create another MR, to merge online to the fixes branch.
I prefer doing that with my local git client....

Of course, I don't know who will do that job, and if they will prefer 
doing it the online way.
