Its also said to use less die space than ARM, but provide a lower 
performance/clock relation.

Besides the already mentioned implementations, multiple dedicated chips, 
and the rather universal PIC32, AFAIK MIPS is used as a soft-core in 
FPGAs. Altera provides a rather nice "NIOS" processor core, that is 
quite similar to MIPS.
