I agree with the idea.

But, not with the proposal.

Not the way it is made, anyway.

Why not come up with a small application/utility that caters for the 
opposition?

IOW, write a small/simple utility that converts a given source to/from 
those shorthand operators to/from their long form.

If there was such a thing and if it produced code that compiled to give 
identical results, I would have no problems with the proposal.
