It appears I can't get that far. If I

make clean
make GDB_V603=1 OPT="-O- -g" all

I fairly promptly get

That's working with 2.2.2 already installed. Unless I hear otherwise 
I'll revert to 2.2.0 when I get time and see if I can compile 2.2.2 
without error with the debugging options.
