[fpc-devel] flaky Win64 support in FPC?

Hi,

Could anybody using 64bit FPC under Windows comment on this? I'm only
now able to setup 64bit FPC under Linux, but haven't had the
opportunity to run 64bit Windows and FPC for that matter. I thought
64bit support in FPC was done and dusted? [for Linux and Windows at
least]

64bit is not only about accessing more than 4gb memory (which you can
also do on a 32bit system... using the win32 AWE APIs).
I for one desperately need a native 64bit pascal compiler. I can't use
my ISAPIs on 64bit IIS7 (or even IIS6) for that matter. I can't use 64
bit DLLs in my project. I can't do 64-bit shell stuffs with my delphi.
In fact, ever since I had upgraded to a 64bit PC, I've been feeling a
little crippled as a delphi developer.

I know FPC has a win64 compiler. But it's not quite ready for
primetime use. Just last month I had to cancel my Win64 VPS hosting
after a frustrating struggle with FPC-Win64. FPC-64 compiler can do
basic 64 bit stuffs, but anything more complicated and you'll have
trouble. I was able to compile my IOCP-based server with FPC/64, but
the app crashes soon after it starts. And I don't have the slightest
idea where to start hunting for bugs. FPC does produce 64-bit apps,
but it may not be the ideal solution fo
r critical apps.
