I'm not sure if your advice is for me. I have no file "dw_htmlchm.inc" in my instalation (fpc, lcl). I don't know what you mean when you say " this fixes the TOC and Index when generated in a windows computer so "\"  is changed to "/" ".
My problem is that I can't compile functions or procedures called with shortstring parameters like: function Test(s: String[31]);
My second problems is that I can't see text on buttons in Lazarus, only small icons. For example when I click Search -> Find... or  in other dialogs, except system dialogs (like opening files etc.). I tried to change some environment setting, but no success.
