Hello,
The FPC team is pleased to announce that version 1.0.10 of the Free Pascal
Compiler is (finally) released. Installation binaries are available for
download for most supported platforms:
- Dos
- FreeBSD
- Linux (Intel/Motorola)
- NetBSD (Intel/Motorola)
- OS/2
- Windows (All flavours)
Installations for Amiga, BeOS, QNX, Solaris should be uploaded hopefully
soon. A release candidate is available for these platforms too.
The main download page is
http://www.freepascal.org/sdown.html
Please select a mirror, because the main site is currently on a
low-bandwidth line and may not be available.
Sourceforge may be a good choice, as they have additional mirrors.
Some older mirrors have disappeared or are outdated, so we could
use some new mirrors, please contact us if you can offer us some
mirror space !
What is Changed/New ?
---------------------
This is a bugfix release mostly. However, to support the Lazarus IDE,
and several other projects, some enhancements are included anyway:
- Documentation generator (fpdoc, all platforms, documented)
- Remote call support for Unix (XML-RPC, on Linux)
- Complete Libc Header translation, Kylix compatible (Linux)
- Many new packages and units.
- Documentation for the Classes unit.
What happened to 1.0.8 ?
------------------------
The release of 1.0.8 took so long that preliminary downloads have been
available for too long a time, and too many changes were implemented in the
meantime that the FPC team decided to jump directly to version 1.0.10 to
avoid any confusion. People who downloaded a preliminary version of 1.0.8
are urged to download the 1.0.10 version.
What is Next ?
--------------
We sincerely hope that this is the last 1.0.X release. Work is now done
mostly on the 1.1 development branch, where some things are progressing at
fast pace:
Language features:
- Threads support.
- Variants support.
- Interfaces support.
Compiler Architecture:
- Complete rewrite of the code generator for easier porting to new
CPU architectures.
- PPC port is working on Linux. (make cycle works)
Mac support is worked on.
- SPARC port is basically done (hello world runs)
- ARM port will be started soon hopefully (Linux/Zaurus as initial target)
And hopefully still many other exciting things...
Enjoy the new release !
Michael.
