Are you starting with FPC 2.2.2? Building trunk is only guaranteed to  
work when starting with with the latest released FPC version (on all  
platforms, at all times). I have seen similar behaviour when trying to  
build the current 2.3.1 with a 2.3.1 from before the unicode branch  
merge.
